(“Block”) the company that developed Cash App. Cash App is a mobile payment service that allows users to transfer money to one another using a mobile-phone app. Block, a financial service company, announced a potentially massive data security incident involving over 8 million users of the mobile-app Cash App Investing.
On April 4, 2022, Block announced that a former employee of the company, in December of 2021, after the employee had left the company, downloaded reports containing the personal information of U.S. users of the Cash App Investing app. The downloaded information included full names and brokerage account numbers, which are used to identify a user’s stock activity on Cash App Investing.
