KGG is currently investigating a putative class action against car manufacturers G.M., Honda, Kia and Hyundai. Car manufacturers via internet-enabled cars and accompanying car applications are sending data to data collection services LexisNexis and Verisk and insurance providers without the knowledge or consent of the vehicle owner. Data collection services are creating detailed driving habit reports disclosing when trips start and end, speeding, hard braking, or sharp acceleration. These reports are then provided to insurance companies who are increasing rates based on poor driving habits.
If you had the OnStar Smart Driver applications or similar services and discontinued it or never subscribed, their data collection practices are alleged to have violated consumer protection and data protection laws.
