According to LoHud.com, a car accident on Route 202 in Ramapo on January 15 killed one woman, critically injured a second woman and sent four other people to the hospital.
The website reported that the accident involved a car and a minivan. The severely injured women were found unconscious and unresponsive in their vehicles, following the broadside collision. “The roads were terribly icy,” Assistant Hillcrest Fire Chief Chris Bowers said, according to LoHud.com.
Firefighters had to extract the two women from their vehicles, as well as the driver of the minivan and two of the three people in the car, identified as an Acura. It took about 45 minutes to remove the people from the vehicles.
Police said that the two women who were the most seriously injured were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where one woman was later pronounced dead in the emergency room. The other woman was eventually transferred to the Westchester Medical Center in critical condition.
The four other people injured in the accident were taken to Nyack Hospital. The crash occurred just before Cottage Lane, according to LoHud.com. A preliminary investigation showed that the minivan crossed into the opposite lane and slid sideways, with its passenger side hitting the Acura traveling Route 202.
The woman who died reportedly suffered multiple fractures, and head and internal injuries. The woman who was critically injured suffered multiple fractures and trauma.
