According to the New York Daily News, a rabbinical student was run over by a trash truck on February 23 while crossing a Brooklyn street.
The paper reported that 25-year-old student was struck at 9:08 a.m., on Kingston Avenue at Carroll Street in Crown Heights. He died at the scene of the crash.
A witness told the Daily News that the driver of the sanitation truck that hit the student was traveling north on Kingston Avenue and never saw him while attempting to make a right onto Carroll Street. The student was in town to celebrate his friend’s upcoming wedding.
The driver of the truck that hit the student reportedly had a valid driver’s license and no criminal record. From the Ukraine, the student was studying to become a rabbi at Tiferes Bachurim, a Morristown, N.J. yeshiva, according to the Daily News. He was reportedly on his way to a morning prayer service when the accident occurred.
The accident remains under investigation.
