According to the New York Daily News, automakers Hyundai and Kia recalled almost 1.9 million vehicles this spring to fix issues with air bags and brake light switches.
The recall affected the Hyundai Accent, Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Santa Fe, Sonata, Tucson and Veracruz. Kia’s affected vehicles include the Optima, Rondo, Sedona, Sorento, Soul and Sportage. The Daily News reported that the vehicles are from the 2007 through 2011 model years.
Regulators said that a faulty brake switch could stop the brake lights from illuminating when a driver presses a pedal. In addition, there is potential that the cruise control on the vehicle may not stop when a driver steps on the brake pedal. The Daily News said that the airbag recall deals with a bracket that can come lose when an air bag is inflated, which can injure people.
