Kantrowitz, Goldhamer & Graifman, P.C., is currently investigating Chemonics International, Inc. (“Chemonics”) regarding a data breach affecting the personal information of 263,136 individuals. Chemonics is an international development and consulting firm that has received U.S. government contracts for their services in a range of industries, including but not limited to; agriculture; economic development; education; sustainable energy; health care; international trade; and finance. Chemonics maintains offices in both Washington, D.C., and Crystal City, Virginia, and recently established international offices in London, U.K.

In approximately mid-December 2023, Chemonics first became aware of “suspicious activity” on their network. Chemonics’ subsequent investigation revealed that hackers first gained access to their network seven months earlier on May 30, 2023. Hackers maintained unrestricted access to Chemonics’ network until January 9, 2024, and the investigation confirmed that “personal information” was subject to unauthorized access. The investigation, conducted by Chemonics and third-party experts, took until October 31, 2024, to complete – nearly a year after discovery of the data breach. Chemonics finally notified the Maine Attorney General of the data breach on December 3, 2024, that hackers gained unauthorized access to the following sensitive information:
