Pennsylvania State Education Association Data Breach Class Action Litigation

Kantrowitz, Goldhamer & Graifman, P.C., is currently investigating Pennsylvania State Education Association (“PSEA”) regarding a data breach affecting the personal information and protected health information of approximately 517,487 individuals. PSEA is a labor union representing over 187,000 teachers, counselors, librarians, school nurses, and many other employees across Pennsylvania. PSEA represents the labor, policy, and professional interests of its members and bargains for their compensation, benefits, and rights.

On or about July 6, 2024, PSEA suffered a cyberattack on its internal network. While it is undetermined how long it took PSEA to discover this data breach, the investigation into the matter concluded on February 18, 2025, where PSEA determined that the data acquired by the hacker contained personal information belonging to individuals whose information was stored within its network. On March 17, 2025, PSEA notified the Maine Attorney General that the following sensitive information had been compromised:

  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s License or State ID
  • Social Security Number
  • Account Number and PIN
  • Security Code
  • Password
  • Routing number
  • Payment Card Number, PIN and Expiration Date
  • Passport Number
  • Taxpayer ID Number
  • Username and Password
  • Medical and Health Insurance Information
