Kantrowitz, Goldhamer & Graifman, P.C., is currently investigating Sunflower Medical Group, P.A. (“Sunflower”), regarding a data breach affecting the personal information and protected health information of approximately 221,000 patients. Sunflower is a Kansas-based medical group with a focus in pediatrics, internal medicine, family practice, and obstetrics and gynecology. Sunflower has established four care centers across Kansas City, Lenexa, and Roeland Park, Kansas.
On or about January 7, 2025, Sunflower identified suspicious activity within its network. This prompted a third-party forensic investigation which confirmed that an unauthorized actor infiltrated Sunflower’s network on December 15, 2024, and maintained access until January 7, 2025. It was later confirmed that as a result of this cyberattack, the unauthorized actor was able to exfiltrate sensitive patient data. that it was experiencing a cybersecurity attack. On March 7, 2025, Sunflower notified the Maine Attorney General that the following sensitive information had been compromised:
- Full names
- Addresses
- Dates of birth
- Social Security numbers
- Driver’s license numbers
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
